Let's face it, your 20s are one of the most precious and best time of your life: you have the most energy, freedom to do anything you want and chase your dreams. However, as we get older, we start to realize that life is not always about rainbows and sunshine, there will be storms and earthquakes. But don't worry honey, I have compiled 20 things to help you to get the best out of your 20s, regardless of where you are and what you do right now.
Start thinking about buying property and even pension funds (perish the thought, girl!). I recommend you to start listening about how to invest your money and knowing some basics about assets, liabilities, and cash flow.
Remember this, sweetheart, just because you fail, doesn’t mean you are a failure. I really respect this Princeton professor, Johannes Haushofer who published his list of CV failures! You can read the full list here.
Time to get rid of all those mismatches and plan to start acquiring all those missing skills, yes?
Stop using, Tinder, honey. Play down all the social media and concentrate on getting some real networking done. This may mean that you have to leave your comfort zone and start talking to new people. I know, I know it’s hard, but nothing good comes easily! If you are an introvert, Susan Cain has some great advice in her book Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking. I recommend you to read it with our latte!
This means that you have to stop posting rubbishy selfies or your duck faces on Facebook and Instagram as employers actually check out a few things here. Instead, aim at using that stuff less and building up a great profile on LinkedIn.
Too many regrets? That’s for losers, and I know you’re not that kind of girl, yes honey? The only way is forward. Think of what David Livingstone, the great explorer said:
Especially when driving. I am going to invent you an anti-phone device for cars (I might be dreaming) so that everybody (yes, and all those “adults” over 20 too!) can stop causing death on the roads. What good is your life with a tragedy like that?
Fucked up your hair? Failed an interview? Ordered the wrong dish? Messed up a class presentation? Got bad grades? Adults can be wrong too. Only they’re better at hiding it and typically start calling their mistakes wanky things like ‘learning curves’. It gets better, so don’t worry so much girl.
And a waste of time and energy! If you have to drink like that, just drink plenty of water, before, during and afterward. Water will keep you from getting dehydrated. This is the main cause of a hangover lmao.
You know those people who hang around you. They sometimes take advantage or are not reliable or are simply whiners. Get rid of them or avoid them whenever or wherever possible. You don’t need any more negative people in your life, girl.
This is to follow up on my previous point. Real friendships are like gold. They have to stand the test of time. Are you ready to do your due diligence, girl?
No explanation needed. Just read this one.
Okay, I know fast food is sometimes quick and easy, but it’s just not worth it for your health. Once I started to learn how to cook, my life, health, and social standing all changed dramatically. Opens all sorts of vistas and is a great bonder in any situation.
Remember, girl, that your mind is like a parachute. Only open when it needs to be opened. I actually love this quote: “Keep an open mind – but not so open that your brain falls out”. – Carl Sagan
I don’t wanna see you get killed by this. Just don’t and stay safe.
Yes, stop all those games and start reading summaries of books while waiting for appointments. The Blinkist app is a great way (no affiliate link here, so I don’t make money) to speed up your learning and fill in those gaps in your knowledge.
There will always be those old-school people who are just like a pain in the ass: so judgemental. Unfortunately, people still view these with mixed reactions and if you work in the service industries, it makes sense to have them well hidden. Even in some business circles, they are frowned upon.
Don’t let Facebook and email rob your valuable time. Lots of apps you can get to help you.
Because you deserve it, girl.
